Zennie Abraham Created Sports Business Simulations

Sports Business Simulations is a private Dormant Corporation located in Oakland, California. SBS developed web-based sports business simulations based on system dynamics and for use in the classroom, as a sports fantasy game, and as a consulting tool. One product suite; three markets. See: http://www.sportsbusinesssims.com

Zennie Abraham Worked In Politics And Economic Development

Zennie has an extensive work background in politics, urban planning and economic development, having worked as intern in the Dallas Office of The Late Sen. Lloyd Bentson, and then as intern in the Dallas and Ft. Worth Planning Depts, from 1983 to 1985. After graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, Zennie was hired as an economic development intern in the Oakland Economic Development Office in the old annex building on Clay Street (since replaced by the Elihu M. Harris State Building).

Then, at the behest of Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, Zennie also served on the 1994 Alameda Base Reuse Committee, where he helped guide policy for the redevelopment of lands that hosted the West Oakland Army Base and the Alameda Naval Air Station. He says it was his experience in witnessing how consulting firms were just seeking a contract from Alameda County but not focused on the needs of the community that spurred him to want to write about the problem, and other topics.

Thanks to Supervisor Carson’s then-aide Amalia Egri, who encouraged him to seek a position as a newspaper columnist with a story to tell about Oakland, Alameda County, and economic development. And that’s how Zennie wound up as Columnist for The Montclarion – and thanks to the late editor Chris Treadway. He was the first black columnist the white-oriented Oakland Hills publication has ever hired. His column, initially , called “Oakland’s Economy”, then “Zennie Abraham”, lasted for three years from October of 1993 to October of 1996.

In Zennie’s personal life, he is an only-child (but has three half-sisters Valerie, Jackie, and Amanda), is single, not been married as of this writing, and flies between Oakland and Atlanta, where his Mom, a breast-cancer survivor, has lived since 2002. In 2005, I lost my biological father Zenophon Abraham, Sr. and my stepfather Chester H. Yerger, Jr. to prostate cancer – than was also the year his Mother had breast cancer. Thanks to the work of doctors with Kaiser, and an early state drug called Femara, she was declared cancer-free on 5-17-2005, and has been since then.
