Rams Josh Wallace Int Of Seahawks QB Sam Darnold Shows Why Perkins/Erhardt Tosser Pass Play Is Bad

The Perkins / Erhardt pass play has two wide receivers on the same side and in a slot formation, both running inside slant patterns. The idea is to assume man-for-man coverage and then that the cornerback covering the inside receiver will just keep running with that pass catcher, thus leaving a space for the second receiver to run to using the same slant pattern. But what happens if the cornerback doesn’t go with the first receiver?

LA Rams Cornerback Josh Wallace gave us the answer: It gets picked off and in this case by him against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. Wallace almost scored a touchdown on the interception.

About 60 percent of the teams in the NFL use the tosser concept. I think it needs to go away. The question is how? Well, one has to take advantage of the idea that the cornerback will not always follow the receiver. The best form of punishment is to have the first receiver run an up pattern rather than a slant.

That causes immediate pressure on the defense: the corner has to stay with that pass catcher and the pattern forces safety help. If the safety comes down to support, then drop the pass to the number two receiver, if not then zip it to the first one on what becomes a “look in” pass – where that up pattern catcher literally looks inside for the ball.

That’s how you do it.

Another way is to give a combination route to the second receiver where he breaks the slant after two steps if the first cornerback does not go with the first receiver in the combination.

Note from ZennieReport.com, Zennie62 YouTube, and ZennieReport.com: this ZennieReport video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. This is what we call “The Third Wave of Media”.

The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the ZennieReport.com Blog site and Zennie62Media -created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, thus less chance for ZennieReport.com, Zennie62 YouTube vloggers to be robbed.

The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
