Rename 2025 OAL Silver Bowl Game “The John Beam Classic” For The Late Coach, Play It At The Coliseum
If you type “Oakland Athletic League” Silver Bowl in Google Search, you get the following result: The “Oakland Athletic League” Silver Bowl is the championship football game for the Oakland Athletic League (OAL) in Oakland, California. It is historically the annual game between rivals McClymonds and Oakland Tech, held at McClymonds High School. The name is also associated with the successful championship runs of legendary Oakland coach John Beam, whose Skyline High School teams won 11 Silver Bowl titles.
Given the impact Coach John Beam has had on Oakland and it’s place in American culture, the Oakland Athletic League should rename the event “The John Beam Classic” , and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority, which runs the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Complex should approve it to play at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium.
It would be a fitting tribute to the “Godfather Of Football in Oakland”. A representation of the powerful sprit that is Coach John Beam, a living memorial, and a place for all of his students, past and present, to gather and witness the future stars of Oakland Football.
I hope the Oakland Athletic League, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority, and the Oakland City Council, and Laney College, Skyline High School, the schools of the OAL make this happen, and include the Oakland / Las Vegas Raiders and the Golden State Warriors and Oakland A’s and Oakland businesses large and small in the formation of what will be something special.
