OAKLAND, CA – Oakland City Councilmember Charlene Wang stood in unity with Federal, State, County
and City elected leaders, law enforcement, faith leaders, legal advocates and community partners at the press conference convened by Mayor Barbara Lee in response to the deployment of more than 100 U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP) at the Alameda Coast Guard Station. As the Trump Administration looks to ramp up its efforts in the Bay Area, the City and Oakland and Alameda County arewell prepared to respond.
As of this afternoon, the President has indicated that he has taken San Francisco out of the picture, but has not confirmed if those CBP Agents already in place will stay or leave. “I stand together with our immigrant communities, and our city is committed to a strong Sanctuary
Policy,” said Wang. “Now, it’s time to rally and protect our neighbors, and come together as I believe there is more that can be done. I will look at our city policies and find ways the city can protect our
communities.”
