Tyler Robinson Charlie Kirk Killer Is 22 Year Old Utah Student Turned In By His Father This Morning
The man accused of killing Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson.
Mr. Tyler Robinson, 22, was named as the alleged assassin of Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative influencer and confidant of Donald Trump, who was shot during a rally at Utah University.
His capture follows a two-day manhunt for the gunman, who fired a single lethal shot before jumping off a roof overlooking the event and escaping.
The president said the suspect’s father helped to turn his son in after the FBI released two pictures of a “person of interest”.
The grainy picture shows a white man wearing sunglasses, a baseball hat, and a black sweatshirt that appears to feature an American flag and an eagle.
“I think we have him,” the US president revealed in an interview with Fox and Friends this morning.
But who is Tyler Robinson?
“Good morning ladies and gentlemen, we got him,” Utah Gov. Cox said as he addressed journalists Friday morning at a press conference. The governor said that Robinson had indicated to a family friend that he was connected to the shooting, which led to his arrest. FBI director Kash Patel confirmed that the alleged shooter was taken into custody at 10 p.m. local time on Thursday night.
According to Gov. Cox, the family friend said Robinson had become “more political” in recent years. The engravings on his bullet casings included phrases like “Hey, fascist! Catch!,” “If you read this you are gay lmao” and “Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.”
On Friday morning, President Donald Trump announced on “Fox & Friends” that a suspect had been taken into custody, saying: “With a high degree of certainty, we have him.” He added that a minister who had relations to law enforcement identified the alleged killer, which then led to his father getting involved and the suspect being turned into the police. “Somebody that was very close to him said, ‘Hmm, that’s him,’” he said.
At the press conference, FBI Director Kash Patel said the suspect was taken into at 10 p.m. local time Thursday night.
“This is what happens when you let good cops be cops,” Patel said. “In 33 hours, we have made historic progress for Charlie.”
Patel, who had faced public criticism for his initial handling of the investigation, expressed his gratitude to President Trump and the White House for their support.
He said the public had a right to demand “an expeditious” capture.
“The FBI answered that call,” Patel said. “We delivered.”
Investigators provide new details on when suspect arrived at school campus
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said more campus security footage was shared with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, which showed when the suspect arrived at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
The new footage shows Tyler Robinson pulling into the campus in a Gray Dodge Challenger around 8:29 a.m. MT. He’s seen “wearing a plain maroon T-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo and light colored shoes,” Cox said, which was consistent with what Robinson was wearing when confronted by investigators on Thursday evening.
