I’m writing to share my strong support for Oakland City Council President Kevin Jenkins and to encourage your participation in his fundraising event on June 25 2025 (details below).
Having been involved in Oakland media and politics for more than 30 years, I’ve seen many elected leaders come and go. Today, I believe we have a strong Oakland City Council led by a capable and committed City Council President in Kevin Jenkins.
Oakland Councilmember Kevin Jenkins distinguished himself during his brief tenure as Mayor of Oakland. In one of the city’s most challenging moments post-recall of Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, he provided steady leadership and earned the respect of both his colleagues and the community.
As Oakland City Council President, he has built a constructive relationship with Mayor Barbara Lee and appears to have majority support on the Council for key decisions that will shape Oakland’s future.
That’s why I urge you to make the maximum contribution to his campaign which is $900, and urge you to get others to do the same. Ask yourself: Will Oakland be better off with Kevin Jenkins as a strong, principled leader? I believe the answer is yes.
Since the turn of the 21st Century, I’ve observed a troubling lack of organized support for business and investment in Oakland, as well as a dramatic decline in economic development know-how and activity.
Now it’s time for Oakland business and civic leaders to re-engage, show up, and be a force to be reckoned with. Supporting Councilmember Kevin Jenkins is a critical step in that direction.
