LaNiece Jones Oakland Interim Deputy Mayor Has No Financial Stake In ASSEG Coliseum Land Deal At All

The Oaklandside is at it again: trying to make a black public official look bad under false pretenses for clickbait. The folks at Oaklandside, namely Tasmeen Raja, the editor-in-chief, should really stop doing that. It’s illegal. But let’s talk about my long-time friend Lanice Jones, first.

LaNiece Jones, aside from having no financial stake in AASEG, has been my friend since Bret Harte Junior High School (now called “middle school”) in Oakland. So I am writing this for my friend who is not a client. And while she wasn’t a member of our Star Trek Club, of which I was President, she was a dear friend who was a leader involved in school activities. That’s a habit that followers her to this day.

LaNiece Jones rise to Interim Deputy Mayor is a short one, and so it’s sad that the Oaklandside (a publication that’s not black-owned and almost devoid of black news writers) was so triggered by the ascent of this popular sister in Oakland that it decided to use her as the focus of a clickbait lie campaign. The article “Oakland deputy mayor has financial stake in Coliseum land deal” is a total lie, but you have to read it to realize that. Let me save you the trouble.

LaNiece Jones is a member of AASEG, but that membership does not call for payment of money, or really time; it’s more a statement that she has been an advocate and a helper in the past. In other words, more a friend, but not a financier.

This is what it means to have a financial stake in something: A “financial stake” refers to a share or investment in something, especially a business, that provides a personal or financial interest in its success or failure. It signifies a level of ownership or involvement where an individual or entity stands to gain financially from the project or company’s performance.

The Oaklandside article admits LaNiece Jones does not have that, but then why make the article to start with? That’s what Oaklandside does and because AASEG Coliseum is a politically-divisive issue and the subject is a black person in power in Oakland. So, once again, the nonprofit news publication flirts with breaking the law and very often does.

Here’s the law from the IRS point of view.

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity. Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.

Certain activities or expenditures may not be prohibited depending on the facts and circumstances. For example, certain voter education activities (including presenting public forums and publishing voter education guides) conducted in a non-partisan manner do not constitute prohibited political campaign activity.

On the other hand, voter education or registration activities with evidence of bias that (a) would favor one candidate over another; (b) oppose a candidate in some manner; or (c) have the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates, will constitute prohibited participation or intervention.

The Oaklandside Was Out Of Line And Should Apologize To LaNice Jones

This is on Tasmeen Raja, the Oaklandside’s effective editor-in-chief (I’m not going to trash her). She does know better. So does Lance Knobel, the Oaklandside owner who, I’m told, “hates Zennie Abraham’s guts”. Nice. I suppose it’s because I am a black Oakland blogger and vlogger who points out racism in news publications. So, I will take the hate.

Oakland’s black population should not be used as instruments for the expression of media racism. The fact is, such a practice has gone on too long. The process is if you want to show government inefficiency to white readers, focus on someone black working for the public and doing something, and saying “We’re working on it”.

That’s a line uttered by Harvey Dent in the 1989 Batman as portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, as he’s taking call after call about crimes in Gotham City. The habit reaches the movies. Time to stop. Especially since America realizes that government at the highest levels messes up and very often the mess is made by the same folks who blast diversity programs.

Note from ZennieReport.com, Zennie62 YouTube, and ZennieReport.com: this ZennieReport video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. This is what we call “The Third Wave of Media”.

The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the ZennieReport.com Blog site and Zennie62Media -created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, thus less chance for ZennieReport.com, Zennie62 YouTube vloggers to be robbed.

The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
