Oakland (Special to ZennieReport.com) – Katherine Falk is one of those people who are on Nextdoor way too much and contributes to its reputation as being a haven for Oakland’s racist population. With respect to me, Katherine Falk started blasting me because of my friendship with Seneca Scott.
Now Seneca has takes that are deliberately alarming and hurtful and I have addressed that with him more times than I care to count. But overall the good far outweighs that bad with him, plus he also says to me that he’s not anti-trans, and I accept that. And that’s where Katherine Falk enters.
Basically Katherine Falk is a lot like Seneca and so much so that I think she would hate to admit it. Both can be cutting to others on Nextdoor, but even then she’s nastier by far than he can be in my opinion. Katherine Falk is righly upset with Seneca’s takes, but rather than try and get to know him via a phone call or meetup, she hides behind Nextdoor and plays troll to folks who are friendly to Seneca, like me.
No More Trolling People, Katherine
That’s where I got tired of Katherine Falk’s actions on Nextdoor as applied to me. She is a mean person who comes off as one of those people that can’t stand anyone black who is intellectually confident. Plus, she claims Seneca is mean, but the reality is she acts just like he can at times. It’s an obvious trigger point for her, and now I’m sick and tired of it. It only happens because she makes a point of tagging me with her bad behavior.
Her latest round of this bad behavior was her quip that she will not look at my interview with Oakland Mayoral Candidate Renia Webb – even though it ratifies what she’s come to think of Sheng Thao’s former aide – because it’s “not journalism”. She’s right. It’s vlogging and is related to blogging, and I am a blogger. I view blogging as superior to journalism, because too often journalists claim to not be close to politicians, and yet they say they need to be to maintain access. And it’s that dynamic that allows the covering up of the truth. Bloggers and vloggers do not have that filter built in and so their work is intellectually honest. Journalists are not that most of the time.
So, in response to her attempt at insulting me on Nextdoor, I wrote what follows below.
I am a vlogger and blogger and because journalism is specifically designed to dampen challenge to regimes in various aspects of life. And that’s true in Oakland’s case, to put a fine point on it. That’s why the Arab Spring was launched by bloggers; journalists were all too often compromised and are in Oakland today (see: https://zenniereport.com/2024/03/14/in-2022-oaklandside-didnt-reveal-donors-fundraisers-drew-oakland-councilmembers/).
Journalists tell you they are “objective”, which is completely impossible to be and not “tight” with elected officials, yet take money from them. Anyone who buys that rhetoric about journalists and research is automatically brainless. That’s just a fact proven by history.
Regarding The Arab Spring and blogs and social media, Mohamed Chtatou wrote:
Because of technology and social media, communities are now liberated from state television monopolies. Countries have a history of censorship and regulation, so most vectors of free speech, are regulated and censored by government authority. TV and news stations censor and skew information, which leaves people gullible and longing for the truth. Social media provided an alternative to censorship. People can now tweet, post, and share anything, and everything, they want, when they want, without government regulation.
Blogging is a child of the internet formed from the crucible of discontent, and Vlogging is blogging using the camera. I am Oakland’s first blogger. I have turned a number of journalists into bloggers and vloggers like the late Glenn Dickey and KTVU’s Kraig Debro (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXeDwI6mkbo).
And then I interviewed a number of people who were trying to define what blogging was and is, like Scott Rosenberg here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnpk8Yjxfjc You try and “big talk” Katherine, but the fact is you have no history in the media industry, do not know how to code websites and are merely a spectator.
By contrast, my sites cleared 5 million unique visitors in the last 30 days. Please stop acting like you understand the industry and LEARN something. A number of journalists have done just that with respect to me. And before you were around, from 1993 to 1996, I competed with the late Peggy Stinette for most popular columnist in Oakland (she with the Tribune and me with the Montclarion and I did not even have a journalist degree, but city planning undergrad and masters).
So stop with your silly (and arguably racist) attempts at lecturing me, and pay attention. Because not doing so will only render you ignorant of Oakland.
