Marc Guggenheim Interview: “Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes” And ST:TMP Legacy Today

On Wednesday, February 26th at 2 PM PST / 5 PM EST I am honored to welcome back the incredible talent that is Marc Guggenheim. While Marc Guggenheim is best known for the Arrowverse, he is also an accomplished author and a Star Trek Fan. His Star Trek work we’re going to talk about it called “Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes”.

What’s it about? Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes story goes like this:

When a space anomaly thrusts a bounty hunter and her target—a criminal mastermind—into their universe, it’s up to Kirk and his crew to stop them from unintentionally starting a war with the Romulans and unleashing a superweapon of foreign tech onto the system. But the strangers from another universe are more familiar than they assume…for underneath their helmets are their doppelgängers—from an alternate reality!

The timeline for Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes is right after the events surrounding Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

TrekCentral loved the book, writing “The introduction to ‘Echoes’ Issue #4 is a work of genius. At the start of just about all the Star Trek IDW comics I’ve read, the front page contains a brief summary to refresh the last issue in the mind of readers. While this issue has this, it has something else. The entire opening scene summarises even more key points through a political meeting. It also creates a sense of scale, that even without the Nightbringer, this incident could have far-reaching diplomatic consequences. Maybe if they weren’t always going rogue, it would be better.

TrekCentral again: This is a comic full of officers going rogue. We’ve got Kirk and Uhura exploring the Romulan Raptor to disrupt the Nightbringer weapon. Their disguises look amazing as well, evocative of “The Enterprise Incident”, probably the best episode in the third season of TOS. There’s a lot of stealth work, exchanging fists with guards and even Akris himself. It’s one of the most tense, edge-of-your-seat comic scenes I’ve read in a while.”

And we will talk about why Star Trek: The Motion Picture is really a much better movie that we’ve collectively given it credit for.

Note from ZennieReport.com, Zennie62 YouTube, and ZennieReport.com: this ZennieReport video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. This is what we call “The Third Wave of Media”.

The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the ZennieReport.com Blog site and Zennie62Media -created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, thus less chance for ZennieReport.com, Zennie62 YouTube vloggers to be robbed.

The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
