Oakland (Special to ZennieReport.com) – California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced his endorsement of Tara Sreekrishnan in her campaign for State Assembly District 26. Thurmond praised Tara’s leadership, experience, and dedication to expanding opportunities for students and families across Santa Clara County.
“Tara Sreekrishnan is a proven leader who has fought for our students and families, balancing a $300 million budget and expanding opportunities for young people across Santa Clara County,” said Thurmond. “Tara knows firsthand the critical need to expand access to women’s healthcare as a survivor of ovarian cancer, herself. It’s Tara’s commitment to her community that makes her exactly the kind of leader we need in Sacramento, and I’m proud to endorse her for State Assembly.”
A lifelong resident of our District 26 and an elected member of the Santa Clara County Board of Education, Tara Sreekrishnan has been a champion for educational excellence, early learning, and mental health services. She played a pivotal role in initiatives like supporting teachers, closing the digital divide through laptops and internet access, and fighting our fentanyl crisis among youth. Her mom was a school librarian at the same K-12 public schools that Tara Sreekrishnan attended here in this district: Cupertino Union School District & Fremont Union High School District.
“I am honored to receive Tony Thurmond’s endorsement. He has dedicated his career to improving California’s public schools, and I look forward to working alongside him to continue making progress for our students and families in Sacramento,” said Tara Sreekrishnan.
Tara Sreekrishnan has a proven track record of fighting for the diverse communities and families across Santa Clara County. As a County Board of Education Member, Tara has balanced a budget of over $300 million, expanded career opportunities for low-income and middle-class kids, and worked to keep youth safe from our fentanyl crisis.
Sreekrishnan has built a wide coalition of elected officials and organizations representing both business and labor supporting her campaign, including SEIU California, the California Nurses Association, the Sierra Club, the Sunnyvale Democratic Club, The California Democratic Women’s Caucus, and more.
